Interview With Author Esther Rabbit
At the end of 2019 I decided to start a series of interviews with all the wonderful authors I had the pleasure to work with throughout the years. Today, I’d like to introduce you to a very good friend of mine, digital marketing specialist, content creator and author Esther Rabbit.
Hi, I’m Ana Grigoriu-Voicu, book cover designer to independent and best selling authors all around the world. My focus lies on creating powerful visual stories for your published masterpieces. Via my blog I’m aiming towards providing you with the unique artistic perspective of someone who wants to turn each project into a best-seller. If you want to find out more about my work or you’d like to stay in contact, feel free to connect with me over Facebook, Instagram or e-mail.
You began your authoring journey two years ago with the publishing of your first book, ‘Lost in Amber: An Out Of This World Paranormal Romance’. What inspired you to write this superpower-driven adventure?
I’d made a huge financial investment for the size of my wallet, so that summer was spent unlike any other. I was still abroad, working remotely, yet no vaycay, no compulsive spending. But when you’re on a staycation you still need to do something right? I started reading A LOT, one thing lead to another and I found myself writing a story that accidentally morphed into a book. You could say I’m an accidental writer.
As writers, who we are and what we love will always shine through our work. My book speaks volumes about my love of Marvel, comic-con, the value of friendship. It all happened when imagination married curiosity, so Lost in Amber was born for readers who like a little magic, a little pizzazz with their love story.
I’d also like to thank everyone who read my books and left a review. I’m so thankful you took the time to write a few words, it’s all the motivation writers need to keep going.
Zoey, the leading lady of your series, is the embodiment of the true girl-power attitude. Which of her traits remind you of yourself?
I wrote Zoey after my best friend Rachel, the one I also dedicated the book to. What makes Zoey special is the loyalty to her friends but also the willingness to put herself in the other person’s shoes trying to understand the mechanics behind the emotional geometry of perspective. Zoey’s not your badass heroine like Katniss Everdeen, but she’s an Art teacher who, if tickled the wrong way, can go from lamb to wolf in the space of seconds.
Otherwise, we’re both redheads, I guess we have that in common. I always said the world needed more redheads, so it was a done deal. But don’t fret, I’ll be tackling blondes next!
How did ‘Found in Amber’, the second installment of your “An Out Of This World Paranormal Romance” series, come about?
If I didn’t plan on writing a book in the first place, I sure didn’t plan on writing its sequel, but when Lost in Amber came to an end, there was simply more to be told. The story had to continue and my fingers itched to do the work.
In Found in Amber, Zoey and Jasper take their symbiotic relationship to the next level and discover how far they’re willing go for each other and where their moral compass and boundaries stand.
“She just wanted to mope over her breakup, but the universe had other plans for Zoey Mills. Genetically altered with enhancements foreign to her world, twenty-four-year-old Zoey is about to experience the unexpected.”
How did you begin writing? What sparked your interest in becoming a writer?
I started writing ever since I could hold a pen. I wrote stories and poems all through middle school and high school but I never thought I’d ever become a writer. Partially because I love doing a lot of things and writing books takes time away from everything else. But the process was actually enjoyable.
Let’s say your hobby is cooking. Well, if you polish your recipes and publish your very own cook book, bam! That’s added value right there and you can exploit it professionally. Almost anyone can write a book on a topic they’re passionate about without having to be God’s gift to the literary industry. From How To books to crafting and that’s the miracle of self-publishing.
If you’re professionally active in a specific field, writing a book from your expertise can make you stand out as a professional. Lawyers do it, chefs do it, cat lovers do it.
Fans of which authors would enjoy your books?
Off the top of my head, readers who enjoy a slow-burn romance with healthy undertones of good and evil and steamy bits sprinkled here and there. Maybe fans of Jennifer L. Armentrout and Cassandra Clare. And Out Of This World Paranormal Romance aims to satisfy readers of Paranormal Romance, Space Opera but also Urban Fantasy. The coolest surprise for me was to receive emails from readers of Chick Lit saying they enjoyed the story.
Do you outline the characters’ traits before starting to write a story or do you let them develop on their own as the story progresses?
Total pantser, so the characters come to life and develop organically as my story progresses. I fear that if I plan ahead, I won’t be able to surprise myself, or that some elements will become predictable. Not sure if this makes much sense, but I too enjoy being surprised by the journey of my characters.
What is the best piece of writing advice you’d give someone who has just started writing?
I’ll start by saying that I documented my own process From Writing To Publishing, and it’s all available on my blog in case you’re curious. From working with an editor to the secrets of nailing your book cover design or the best books for writers, I gathered all the useful info in lengthy articles and my aim is to help upcoming writers as much as I can.
I also have a section dedicated to interviewing professionals of the writing industry from internationally bestselling authors to cover designers, indie authors, beta readers, etc. If you too are a member of the writing community, hit me up and let’s arrange an interview.
Last but not least, I started my YouTube Channel in 2020 and it’s been a ride. I never expected this kind of response, seeing so many people reaching out and engaging. I’d like to thank everyone for the motivation and for bringing Writing And Publishing Made Simple closer to authors who need it.
Just like I write articles about every step from writing to publishing, I’m now shooting videos and learning to fiddle with editing software while trying to deliver interesting content for the upcoming author. It’s a continuous learning curve and I’m so grateful people appreciate it.
Experience girl power, superpowers and a toe-curling love story as the adventure continues only to unravel an interplanetary scheme of cosmic proportions. Everyone has an agenda in a power play where the line between friend and foe is blurring.
What book is currently on your nightstand?
Okay, don’t laugh: The Patent Game: Basics & Strategies for Innovators, Entrepreneurs, and Business Leaders by Vance V. VanDrake III. I’m doing research for my upcoming novel, and rolling my sleeves for what’s to come. It’s a very cool read and you it doesn’t necessarily take a law degree to become familiar with the terminology.
I very much enjoy reading everything as long as it doesn’t involve animal cruelty of any kind but do I have a soft spot for anything supernatural, especially if there’s love involved.
What are you planning to work on next?
Currently working on three technical manuals that will be released under a different pen name. If all goes according to plan, we’ll have the first published in summer. If I juggle things well, I’ll be releasing at least one title every year for as long as the writing game keeps me interested.
Under Esther Rabbit, I’ll be releasing a new novel either this year or early next year depending on how fast I am. Expect a standalone with more superpowers, more love and a bit more action in the bedroom department (wink, wink).
You can find Esther Rabbit on Goodreads and on her social media accounts at:
And purchase ‘Lost in Amber‘ and ‘Found in Amber‘ from Amazon.
